Facebook Showing Interest to Enter Online Gambling Field

With the market looking increasingly friendly toward online gambling, a growing number of movers and shakers are beginning to toy with the idea of venturing into the online gambling foray. And when I say movers and shakers, I mean movers and shakers. I am particularly referring to Facebook, which has reportedly been in talks recently with UK gaming giants, 888 and Gamesys.

Just what these talks were about has not been publicly discussed, however, I’ll give you a few guesses. Facebook, is no doubt looking at prospective partnerships to develop gaming software – a Facebook game, if you will – that could potentially be played in a real money gambling form. Both Gamesys and 888 have tremendous experience in this front, especially in the UK, where online gambling is legal and regulated.

Should online poker and casino games become legal in the United States, which is looking very likely these days (following the recent Wire Act ruling), Facebook would undeniably hold a great opportunity to the tap into the social aspects of betting, much like Zynga did with the poker playing crowd.

There is no denying that Facebook’s entry in the online gambling arena would be a huge game changer for both players and industry folk. For us fans of video poker games, Facebook should be considered an ally. Not only does FB have too much on the line to not take great pains to meet and exceed regulatory standards, they will no doubt be at the forefront of innovate game designs and large-scale tournaments. In other words, rest assured there will be many a legitimate video poker league arising through the presence of Facebook.
