In a perfect world, there would be no online casino blacklists. But let's
face it - in an industry worth billions of dollars, you can bet your online
gambling bankroll that crooks and scam artists are lurking about
in hopes of making a quick buck or two...or three or four. Indeed, some players
have been taken for thousands of dollars. And while these cases are the
minority, online gamblers (especially "green" gamblers) should never impulsively
open an account at any old (or new) online casino offering a great welcome bonus
and boasting industry accreditations - no matter how fancily packaged that
casino may appear. Just as important as it is to read over informative casino
reviews (see Online Casino VP's casino reviews guidelines), keeping up with the
latest online casino blacklists will assuredly keep you from being led astray by
unscrupulous operators.
Quite often, rogue online casinos prey upon the very same two fears that
keeps some gamblers from betting online in the first place - playing with unfair
odds and not getting paid rightful winnings. Obviously, these actions certainly
call for a blacklisting - and a permanent blacklisting at that. Yet, not every
online casino is blacklisted for these aforementioned reasons, which is why you
might find a blacklisted online casino that is no longer blacklisted. For
example, let's say that "Top Casino" has been at the heart of several player
complaints, ranging from unprofessional customer service to unfair terms and
conditions buried under a bunch of "red tape". Now, if "Top Casino" publicly
addressed these issues, took responsibility, and implemented changes to correct
and rectify their mistakes, it is only right to consider removing them off the
blacklist. Of course, a watchful eye should be on their every move, and the
slightest blunder would necessitate a blacklisting of "Top Casino" once again.
That said, an unbiased online casino blacklist should list all the reasons
why a site has been blacklisted, as well as track record of the site/operator in
question. It should also contain "warnings" about behavior which although might
not necessarily warrant a blacklisting, should be heeded by the player. For
example, let's say "Top Casino" has started to lag on their banking services and
a number of players have reported delayed payouts. Since many gamblers expect to
receive their withdrawals on a timely basis, it is certainly feasible for a
blacklist to publish a fair warning about the recent withdrawal activities at
"Top Casino". They aren't necessarily ripping anyone off, but in terms of
customer service, "Top Casino" isn't meeting industry standards.
In effect, a good online casino
blacklist should serve two purposes:
1)
Keeping players from getting swindled and/or having an unpleasant gaming
experience.
2) Pressuring online casinos to improve their business operations.
On the contrary, a blacklist should not serve to slander a casino out of spite
or flatly seek to put them out of business. If a rogue casino does indeed go out
of business as the direct result of a popular blacklist, well then, that may
just be the best thing for the gaming community. However, be weary of blacklists
that have an air of being more like a "personal grudge", rather than an unbiased
warning, because believe it or not, there are plenty of unscrupulous gamblers
out there as well. There are those players looking to outright rip off an online
casino by making false accusations, while in other cases, there are players who
develop a grudge against an operator because they neglected to read the terms
and conditions for accepting a free cash bonus, only to find out all their
winnings have become null and void (see our
online casino bonuses page for more
details).
